Kurt Gitzlaff

Kurt has been using Maptek Vulcan since 1998 at Cleveland-Cliffs. When he started at Cleveland-Cliffs, every mine site had its own individual mine planning software package.

Kurt made a decision in 1998 to purchase one planning software and that software was Vulcan. After a few years of using Vulcan for short-range planning, he started to build expertise for strategic planning.

Kurt helped with the integration of Maptek Vulcan systems that would be used at all Cliffs mining sites for planning from life-of-mine down to annual budgets. This system and workflow are still in place today.

When Kurt is not working, he spends his time coaching his daughter in volleyball or chauffeuring his son to hockey. Otherwise, Kurt and his wife are out somewhere training for their next marathon.
