Controlled complexity theme for Geology Challenge 2023

Thursday, July 13th, 2023

Maptek has again invited geology and allied professionals to apply our cloud-based machine learning tool DomainMCF to model their geology as part of the annual Geology Challenge.

Registrations are now closed for the 2023 Challenge.

Maptek Senior Technical Lead for geology, Richard Jackson, believes that this year’s challenge theme of ‘controlled complexity’ creates an opportunity to derive the most value from the modelling phase.

‘A geological modelling algorithm doesn’t instinctively know about what we’re trying to model,’ said Jackson.

‘The real value is knowing how to harness all of our information—whether it’s drilling, mapping or structural data—to create a truly great model that reflects what’s under the ground.’

Maptek provides DomainMCF alongside expert guidance to ensure that participants, who submitted a paragraph explaining the problem they want to solve, gain the most from their experience.

The winner of the Maptek Geology Challenge will receive a personal prize of US$500 and DomainMCF hours for their company to the value of $10,000. Second and third prizes are also available, with winning projects announced in early October 2023.
