In June Maptek attended Euro Mine Expo, one of the largest mining events in Europe.
This year the event was bigger and better than before – and Mark McGarry, Marketing Analyst, Graeme Cowie, I-Site Sales Manager, and I enjoyed the experience. Euro Mine was held at the Kraft Arena in Skellefteå, the heart of Swedish mining.
The mining industry is very important to the Skellefteå region, with the major operations from the area attending the show. This allowed us to get maximum value from three days of exchanging ideas with local and global mining companies.
The atmosphere was warm and friendly, especially with the buzz of the Euro 2012 Football tournament taking place at the same time. Unfortunately our host country, Sweden, lost both games they played during the Expo, saving their best effort against France once the Mine Expo had finished!
Scandinavia is in the midst of a growth spurt with various projects coming online, and the Expo success was evidence of this. Smarter mining and technical development was one of the main themes of the show. With innovative ideas at the heart of our product and services offerings, Maptek was well placed to continue to excite and interest the companies in the region.
Vulcan users from Swedish mining company LKAB, widely renowned as a technology leader, visited the Maptek booth to talk about their experiences since taking up the modelling tools. We also enjoyed renewing our relationship with past Vulcan users who have recently moved to Sweden, and are looking to deploy Vulcan for new projects.
The Expo success was reflected in the entertaining networking and social activities, which provided a forum for friendly discussions about our work and projects. We also had the chance to learn how to lasso a reindeer from a Sami hunter – a member of the indigenous people of the Arctic. Now there is something that you don’t get to do on every trip!
